Type locality: Aquaba (Akaba), Jordan; (Silva & al. 1996: 155) Type: Museo Civico, Venice?; (Yoshida 1998: 813) Notes: Abott (1988, 1994) cites the Red Sea as the type locality.

Participle A (Latin), curved, like a bow (Stearn 1983).

According to Umamaheswara Rao (1974b: 673-674), the name Gracilaria compressa has been misapplied to this species by Børgesen (1937a: 48) and V.Krishnamurthy & H.Joshi (1970: 21) - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Distributional note
This species was introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 165) via the Suez Canal, being first reported from Tunisia prior to 1931. - (05 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
Habitat note
On rock flat ca. 30 cm below low water; on stones in Caulerpa racemosa community growing on calcareous sand, ca. 30 cm below low water; on sponge, ca. 15 cm below low water (Lipkin & Silva 2002). - (31 May 2010) - G.M. Guiry
