The type species (lectotype) of the genus Vaucheria is Vaucheria disperma A.P.de Candolle.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vaucheria submarina (Lyngbye) Berkeley.

Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1983).
