The type species (holotype) of the genus Roseolithon is Roseolithon tupii L.M.Coutinho & Barros-Barreto.

Type Information
Type locality: Rovigno, Adriatic Sea; (Woelkerling 1998: 338) Lectotype: L; 943.7-75 (Woelkerling & Verheij 1995: 44) Notes: Isolectotypes: PC, Thuret-Bornet Herbarium (box collection, filed under Lithothamnion crispatum; TRH, two unnumbered collections one of which includes slide 56 (both collections filed in TRH drawer B-16). Collected by F. Hauck (Wilks & Woelkerling 1995: 560). Basso et al. (2011: 145) note that this was originally described from material collected in the northern Adriatic Sea at 25 m depth (Hauck 1878) and that there are illustrations of the type material in Cabioch & Mendoza 1998: 218, figs 28-29.
