Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Polyopes hakalauensis (Tilden) I.A.Abbott.

Tilden; July 1900; 'on boulders, constantly washed by waves at low tide'; US; 56541 (Abbott 1998: 101) Notes: Isotypes (at least one specimen of the same number in the two copies of American Algae exsiccatae in UC; also no. 506 in Herb. MINN.
