Nomenclatural note
"It is possible that Jania ungulata is conspecific with, and thus a heterotypic synonym of, J. pedunculata but no final conclusions can be reached in the absence of a designated lectotype and epitype for J. ungulata along with comparisons of type and other material referred to the two species.
