Type locality: Western Australia (mouth of Swan River); (Silva & al. 1996: 260) Lectotype: Preiss, prior to 1845; MEL; 516739 (Wilks & Woelkerling 1991: 528) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Harvey (1849 [1847-1849]: 108). Designated and depicted by Woelkerling (1980: 238, fig. 1).

Adjective (Latin), flabellate, fan-shaped (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.
Habitat
Found on rock in intertidal pools and to depths of 48 m; subtidal vertical rock faces (Womersley 1996: 246).
