Type locality: Tor, Sinai Peninsula, Egypt; (Silva & al. 1996: 277) Lectotype: TRH; (Verheij 1993: 190) Notes: Lectotype: TRH, no number (as Sporolithon ptychoides f. dura) designated by Woelkerling & Townsend (in Woelkerling 1988: 204, fig. 239) (Verheij, 1993: 190). Lectotype (S. ptychoides f. dura): TRH C19-3412, Heydrich no. 12; collected by A. Kaiser (Richards et al., 2017: 1050).

Nomenclatural notes
Silva et al. (1996: 277) note that Heydrich (1897a: 67) described S. ptychoides forma durum ('dura') and forma molle ('mollis') but later (1897c: 416) he elevated forma molle to specific rank, thus effectively lectotypifyng S. ptychoides with form durum.
