Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Melobesia is Melobesia membranacea (Esper) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hydrolithon cymodoceae (Foslie) Penrose.

Penrose, D. (1992). Hydrolithon cymodoceae (Foslie) comb. nov. (Corallinaceae, Rhodophyta) in southern Australia and its relationships to Fosliella. Phycologia 31: 89-100, 30 figs.
