Type locality: Garden Island, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 486) Lectotype: Clifton; TCD, Herb. Harvey; (Womersley 2003: 328) Notes: Womersley’s data for Cliftonaea pectinata Harvey 1859a. Womersley (2003: 325) states that Cliftonia Harvey (1859a: pl. 100) was changed to Cliftonaea by Harvey (1863, pl. 279) due to the earlier Cliftonia Banks ex Gaertner.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), pectinate, with narrow close-set divisions like a comb (Stearn 1983).
