The type species (holotype) of the genus Zonaria is Zonaria flava C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Exallosorus harveyanus (Pappe ex Kützing) J.A.Phillips.

Named for William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), Irish Botanist, collector and traveller.
