Type Information
Type locality: "An feuchten Wänden in Warmhäusern" [On damp walls in warm houses; Padua, Italy]; (Kützing 1845: 193) Lectotype (designated by Lokhorst & Star 1985) : Meneghini; L; sheet 939.67-834 "1/280" (Lokhorst 1996: 30) Notes: Lectotype: annotated as "1/280"', Hormidium crenulatum, Patavii". On wet and warm wall of a bath house, Padua (Mikhailyuk et al., 2015: 762). Epitype: strain SAG 37.86 designated by Mikhailyuk et al. (2015: 762) to support the lectotype and the authentic strain of K. crenulatum. It is cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen in the SAG.It was isolated by H. Trenkwalder (original no. T 93) from a soil from Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy and was previously identified as Ulothrix tenuissima.

Adjective (Latin), crenulate, having small rounded teeth (Stearn 1983).
