Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chantransia is Chantransia nigricans De Candolle.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Batrachospermum macrosporum Montagne.

Taxonomic note
Necchi & Oliveira (2011: 684) note that all the sequences of "C. macrospora" investigated by them were shown to belong to Batrachospermum macrosporum and thus, the indication that all macospora sequences represent a single species (B. macrosporum) from previous studies (Pueschel et al. 2000, Chiasson et al. 2005) is fully confirmed. - (27 July 2011) - G.M.
