The type species (holotype) of the genus Dilophus is Dilophus gunnianus J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota pinnata (E.Y.Dawson) I.Hörnig, R.Schnetter & Prud'homme.

Adjective (Latin), with leaflets arraanged on each side of a common petiole.
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
De Clerck (2003) notes that the pinnate branching and the spores occurring in transverse bands are typical features of the Vaughaniella-stage of some Padina species. Examination of the type specimen is necessary to reveal the correct identity.
