Faust & Gulledge (2002: 35) note a synonomy between this species and Dinophysis caudata var. tripos (Gorret ) Gail (1950). According to Dodge (1982) Dinophysis caudata is the correct name taxonomically for Dinophysis tripos Gourret. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
