Nomenclatural note
Gargiulo et al. (1992: 59) cite Gracilaria conferta (Schousboe ex Montagne) J. Feldmann & G. Feldmann 1943: 240), but the combination was previously made by MOntagne (1846). - (02 June 2010) - G.M. Guiry

Distributional note
A recently published study (F. Weinberger et al. 2010) has shown that records of G. conferta from Israel are most certainly wrong and result from misidentification of another species of Gracilaria. The authors consider that there is currently no evidence of the presence of this entity in the eastern Mediterranean. - (17 November 2010) - M.D. Guiry
