Description
Thalli are epiphytic, consisting of ribbon-like blade and fimbriate bladelets, purplish red, and 10-30 cm high. Ribbon-like blades bear many lobes, often branching, undulate, convoluted, very pliable, 4-7 mm broad, 100-300 µm thick. Bladelets are derived from the marginal lobes of the blade, flabellate to cuneate, fimbriate at the distal margin; the latticework developed from the distal margin of the bladelets. The longitudinal lamellae of the latticework are transformed into the fringes. The fringes are composed of many strap-shaped lamellae. The lamellae of the fringe are very fine, simple, with spine-like projections at the margin, one-cell-layered, 25-60 mm long, and 200-300 µm broad. Tetrasporangia borne in groups on the blade, covered with a one-cell-layered envelope, usually several in a common envelope, globose, tetrahedrally divided, 80-100 µm in diameter. Male and female reproductive structures unknown.
