Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Pneophyllum is Pneophyllum fragile Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pneophyllum coronatum (Rosanoff) Penrose.

Type Information
Type locality: Hotoryre: CHE! Herb. Le Jolis no. 1200, 31 December 1857, Cherbourg, growing on Zostera marina! (It is to be found in Le Jolis’s Melobesia lejolisii folder and is illustrated in Fig. 33). ; (Chamberlain 1983: 367) Holotype: 31 December 1857,; growing on Zostera marina; CHE; Herb. Le Jolis no. 1200 (fig. 33) (Chamberlain 1983: 367) Notes: "Duplicates of no. 1200 have also been labelled Le Jolis 283 (CHE!), but were apparently never distributed."
